Jeane Atkin has an outstanding understanding of the body, health and wellness combined with a gentle and welcoming bedside manor. My condition: I had developed a thick mucus in my throat that was causing serious vocal fatigue (I am an opera singer). My allergist said I have no allergies, the ENT said I do not have acid reflux, and my general practitioner told me that there was nothing he could do and I would just have to learn to sing around it.
Jeanne Atkin, who performs acupuncture and prescribes herbal remedies at Pinehurst Healing Arts in Northern Manhattan, has worked wonders with my body. The office, on the gentrified northern slopes of Washington Heights, is immaculate and immediately soothing. After I let her stick needles in me and I took my herbs like a good patient, my chronic cough, my urgent bladder cleared up and my lower back stopped hurting within days. After a few sessions, my lipedema (a chronic swelling in my legs) had gotten noticeably better.
I’m a Columbia University student living in Washington Heights who didn’t believe much in holistic or new age-y medicine. Then I came down with a problem with my eyes that my western doctors couldn’t fix. A friend recommended I visit Jeanne and I was in enough pain to try it. After two treatments the problem became manageable again and after a few more it disappeared. I've been back for stress, back pain and general wellness. Jeanne is a fun, engaging professional. I can't recommend her enough.
Wanted to give a shout out to all the musicians out there looking to heal repetitive stress injuries and prevent future ones. I have added Jeanne Atkin of Pinehurst Healing Arts to the top of my list ......after a 6 week gig in Japan I came back to NYC with tendonitis in my fingering hand & forearm. I tried everything to find relief - massage, compresses, you name it . Was almost at the point where I couldn't do my next gig when I went to Jeanne.
I have been going to Jeanne Atkin for two years for preventive health maintenance as well as occasional musculoskeletal issues. During my visits I would tell Jeanne about the merry go round of colds, sore throats and ear infections that Jack (my four year old son) would bring home from day care. Jeanne suggested he come in for a treatment which would include some pediatric massage, sho ni shin (a Japanese technique with cute little rakes and spoons that stimulate the meridians like acupuncture) and maybe an herbal prescription.
