Treatment may include any of the following TCM modalities: Acupuncture, Chinese herbal therapy, Tui Na (orthopedic massage), Qi Gong rehabilitative exercises, dietary and lifestyle recommendations.
An initial consultation and acupuncture treatment includes an extensive health history. Treatments take place in comfortable private rooms on heated massage tables. Be prepared to spend up to an hour and a half for your initial visit. At the end of your visit we will discuss what we consider to be the best course of treatment to meet your healthcare goals. Following treatments are generally one hour in length.
What is traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)? TCM is a complete medical system which has been practiced for over 5,000 years. It combines acupuncture, Chinese herbs, nutrition, tui na (orthopedic massage), and Tai Chi or Qi Gong (internal martial arts) to bring the body into balance. TCM looks at the mind/body as a whole in order to treat the root cause of illness.
Acupuncture is a safe and effective system of healing used to treat people of all ages with a wide range of illnesses. Chinese medicine philosophy believes that our health is dependant on the balanced flow of qi. The smooth flow of qi can be disturbed by a number of factors. Emotional stress, anger, fear, grief, hereditary dispositions, poor nutrition, infection and trauma are all factors that can disturb the smooth flow of qi. We restore imbalances with the insertion of fine needles along energetic channels (meridians) in the body . The insertion of these needles stimulates the body's own ability to heal and restores us to a state of equilibrium.
Chinese herbal medicine is an integral branch of TCM which uses plants and other natural ingredients to prevent disease and treat illness. Many of these herbs are now being proven through scientific studies to have antibiotic, anti fungal and anticancer properties. Each individual is evaluated according to their unique pattern of disharmony and given an herbal prescription modified specifically for them. These prescriptions are based on classic formulas created thousands of years ago.
Chinese herbal medicine is safe and effective in the treatment of many modern conditions:
|
• Allergies/asthma • Arthritis • Chronic pain, chronic fatigue, Fibromyalgia • Digestive disorders • Depression |
• Infertility • Menopausal disorders • Neurodegenerative disorders (MS) • PMS • Weight loss |
Tui Na (Chinese medical massage) re-aligns the structures of the body and restores the flow of qi, blood and body fluids in the meridians. It treats musculo-skeletal disorders such as neck strain and back pain as well as sports injuries. It also treats internal disorders including dymenorrhea and asthma.
Qi Gong rehabilitative exercises are often taught to patients to facilitate healing. Be it an injury (traumatic or chronic) or internal disease, these exercises which are comprised of focused breath and movement strengthen weakness, realign structure and restore the proper flow of qi, blood and body fluids throughout the body. Exercises are chosen according to each patients particular pattern of disharmony.
Chinese Dietary therapy is a primary tool for preventive health care. Food is viewed as medicine and a healthy, balanced diet can prevent disease and restore one to a state of optimum health. Dietary recommendations are offered according to each patient's individual needs based on traditional Chinese medicine principles.
